Music and the Blacks
I once wondered why music is quite soothing, the rhythm, the beat that
flows along, the beauty of the synergy that results from the sync of
these key ingredients that makes up a track and eventually the
attraction it generates.
The resultant of the above as it relates to me is the choice I have made over the years; the love I had for hardcore rap, the progression that led to the exclusion of the hardcore and then the inclusion of a story to my rap choices; this I discovered in Nas, Talib Kwalib, a little in Jay Z, a higher degree in Common, ultimately the sane sounds from Tupac.
Then Kanye West with his view on lacks, societal needs, human aspiration and the like. Those times R&B genre of music was just a night song; something that calms the nerves, puts u in the mischievous modes and prepares the next!!!!!!!!!
I guess because of the slow sounds coupled with beauty of content, the lyrics were undoubtedly attractive to my preference and then Donell Jones won me over; he had it all; sounds, content, rhythm and the appeal. Tank, Tyrese Gibson, Generic R. Kelly, Joe Thomas, Tank and the pioneers; in terms of style and appeal; Sade Adu, Sister Erykah Badu, India Arie, the sisters of soulful music if u agree. Not underestimating the founders of this music class; soulful music; Teddy Pendergrass, Brother Charlie Wilson and the short lived greatness personified; Marvin Gaye
My motive isn’t to explain the reason behind my choice of music but to explain how beautiful music speaks for itself. A couple of days back, I watched a rerun episode of Midnight with Jools, music underlines the items on this programme and on this day, rock was represented, jazz was present, metallica showcase was clear, fusion of rap exemplified and African Music by a South African band was included.
I am indeed proud to be black, yes I am, all sang good music but the soul inclusion in the rhythm of the SA band was just not ignorable, the only time music players, anchor, guest and audience were unified by the moment was when this soulful couple from SA sang an adaptation of a track titled in their native language but simply in English translation means Do Work.
Folks the music was beautiful, really beautiful, appeal was at its best and delivery perfecta. The lady’s movement to the music was indeed beautiful; the nod of heads was uniform from all around the captured angles of the studio.
Yes I love my Maxwell CDs, Anita Baker compilation, my donell Cds, the Oldies I play but the love of beautiful music cant be ignored, when you hear good rhythm in Swahili, you unify with the sound, that what music does when its good.
It’s not ignorable that my examples of good musician I sited above are all black, not a racist myself, but the black race owns music, Yes we do. To the inclusions of virtual possessions of the black race should be Music, The Most Beautiful of it.
